March 18th, 1957, "Don't forbid me" was at the top of the charts, and a new "Cinderella" was poised to capture hearts. On March 31st, 1957, a radiant Julie Andrews and a stellar cast charmed audiences in a sensational live broadcast of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella on CBS Television. Broadway's fair lady of the day, Julie Andrews, sang and danced her way into the hearts of all. Edith Adams sparkled as the Fairy Godmother and the rest of the cast rendered a performance of a lifetime entertaining over 107 million Americans on the East coast, setting a record for number of viewers. A black and white recording of the performance was shown on the West coast three hours later.

Forty-seven years later, the movie has not yet been remastered or published yet it remains in the memory of those who saw and in the minds of its new fans all of whom still enjoy the scintillating music from the soundtrack recording and treasure it as they cling to the only remnant of that historical day. Fans from all over the world signed the petition to remaster and publish Cinderella as whispers of rumours of a DVD release continued to swirl. A Rodgers and Hammerstein Organisation contact indicated it will become a reality in the fall of 2004 but would give no official word. Image Entertainment has also confirmed an August, 2004 release of the Cinderella DVD, but again not officially. They promise however to post information regarding the DVD release on their website in June, 2004. Fans continue to wait with bated breath!
